Custom foot orthotics in Quebec City

Foot orthotics are Pouliot Orthopédique's founding trade. Since 1971, our Quebec City laboratory has molded every pair from the patient's own impressions — restoring weight-bearing, calming pain and making walking enjoyable again.

Custom foot orthotic made in Quebec

The custom foot orthotic, explained

A custom foot orthotic is a medical device shaped to the exact morphology of your foot. Where a drugstore insole offers an average shape designed for everyone — and therefore for no one — a molded orthotic matches your arch, your heel and your own pressure points, as recorded during the biomechanical assessment.

Material selection is part of the design work. A rigid polypropylene shell imposes firm correction; semi-rigid composites balance control and flexibility; technical foams cushion sensitive zones. Our orthotists layer these according to your weight, activity level and the condition being treated.

That is precisely what generic products lack: a prefabricated insole may soothe, but it corrects nothing, because it knows nothing of your biomechanics. A custom orthotic attacks the imbalance causing the pain — which is why its effects last.

What a well-designed foot orthotic changes

Posture falls back into place

Correct the foot's contact with the ground and everything above benefits: ankles, knees, hips and back regain their alignment.

Pain fades

By spreading pressure where the foot can bear it, the orthotic unloads the sore zones — heel, forefoot, arch — and the pain recedes.

A stabilized stance

Overpronation or supination: the orthotic frames the foot's motion for a stable, natural stride.

Less fatigue, more endurance

A well-supported foot wastes less energy on compensations — at work or in training, the end of the day feels better.

Frequently asked questions about foot orthotics

How much does a pair of custom foot orthotics cost?

The cost depends on the materials and the type of correction required. You receive a detailed quote after the biomechanical assessment, with no obligation. The CNESST, the SAAQ and most private insurers reimburse the device in whole or in part.

Does the RAMQ reimburse foot orthotics?

No — the RAMQ does not cover custom foot orthotics. Most group insurance plans do, however, upon presentation of a medical prescription and a detailed receipt, which we provide.

How soon will my orthotics be ready?

Fabrication happens in our own Sainte-Foy laboratory: allow 2 to 3 weeks between impressions and delivery.

How many years do foot orthotics last?

2 to 5 years on average — weight, activity level and the chosen materials all affect lifespan. A periodic reassessment confirms the correction is still right.

Is it normal for new orthotics to feel uncomfortable at first?

Yes — a 1-to-2-week adaptation period is expected while the foot gets used to its new support. Wear them progressively, a few more hours each day. If discomfort persists, come back for an adjustment.

Do I need a prescription to book an appointment?

No — the assessment with an orthotist requires no prescription. One is only needed for reimbursement by the CNESST, the SAAQ or your insurer.

Do you make foot orthotics for children?

Yes, and it's common: flat feet, in-toeing or growing pains correct all the better when caught early. Follow-up is frequent so the orthotic keeps pace with growth.

Can I wear my orthotics for running or sports?

Absolutely — we design discipline-specific orthotics for running, hockey, skiing and cycling. Materials and correction are chosen around the demands of your sport.
